| ActivityBlock Wall | We have looked at the ear of corn as an analogy for the pattern we might see in cells. In this activity we are using another analogy, the analogy of a block wall to investigate further the pattern we might see under the microscope when we look at cells. To do this activity, your teacher will take you to a hallway or wall made of bricks or block or may show your a picture of a wall made out of blocks. | |
| Study the way the wall is built. | | | | What happens when you move closer to the wall? | | Can you see more or less blocks? Do the blocks look the same as they did from a distance? | | Draw and write about your observation in your lab book. | |
| Now we have investigated how our perspective changes as we move closer to a block wall. We have also investigated how an ear of corn shows a pattern in the kernels. We have seen that as you move closer to an object, you can make out more detail of that object, especially seeing the parts that make up the whole. | | Have your ideas about the way cells are arranged in the body changed? | | Now draw your final model of cells in the the body in your lab book. | |
