Comparing Criticizing, and Revising Model

Your teacher will now show you a computer animation of the digestive system. This is one artist's idea of what digestion looks like. Pay close attention to the mechanism of digestion that is shown. As you watch the animation your teacher will stop it frequently and ask you questions. These will help you compare the model the artist has drawn to your own model.

Is your model different that the computer model? How is it alike and different. Why do you think this is so?

Now with a partner, describe what you have seen in the animation.

Would you like to see the animation again. Sometimes animations move so quickly it is hard to attend to all the action. If you need to see it again, ask your teacher.

Are there any surprises?

Tell your partner two things that you have learned that are new.

Think back over all the activities you have done so far. What does your model of digestion look like compared to your first drawing? Has it changed?

On the drawing of the girl, trace the path food takes from the time you put it into your mouth until it reaches the intestines. Label all parts and tell what happens at each site.
