Criticize and Revise

Now let's look at an animation of nutrients and oxygen moving into and out of the cell. As you observe the animation think about these questions:

  1. How are the blood cells arranged inside the capillary?
  2. Are the blood cells staying in the capillary or moving into the cells around the capillary?
  3. What happens to the nutrients in the blood?
  4. Does anything move out of the cell into the bloodstream?
  5. What about the liquid part of the blood? Does it stay inside the capillary or move into or around the cells?

How does the animation compare to your model? Are there any surprises? Are there things you disagree with? If you need to see the animation again ask your teacher to rerun it. Share your question about the animation with the class. Others may have the same questions.

Take turns explaining the process you have just seen to a partner.

Look back at your original model of circulation and exchange of nutrients and gases at the cell level. How has your model changed?

Draw you new model of how nutrients and gases are exchanged between the blood and the cells.
