Effect of Smoking on the Lungs

Remember when you measured the volume of air that you can hold in your
lungs?
Do you think this would change if you started smoking cigarettes?
If you think it would change, how would it change? What would be the
symptoms?
How soon would symptoms appear?
Do you think it would change if you became an athlete and got a lot of
exercise? How would it change?
Now:
1. Write a paragraph explaining why it is important that lungs have a large
surface area.
2. Write a letter to the mayor expressing your opinion about the effects of
second hand smoke. Explain why you think it is or isn’t harmful to your
lungs.
Use scientific explanations (you might want to include pictures since he
may not know as much as you about this).
Use your argument to either encourage or discourage him to ban smoking
in restaurants.
