Activity

Egg Lab

To help you construct a model of how glucose moves out of the intestines and into cells, we will do several activities that act similarly.

Materials
  • eggs (one for each group)
  • vinegar
  • jars (large enough to fit egg when swollen)
  • corn oil
  • measuring tapes

Purpose: What are we trying to find out?

Set up/procedure:

1. Measure, weigh, and record starting circumference weight of egg.

2. Place raw egg in a jar of vinegar, cover, and mark vinegar level.

3. Record observations daily.

4. After 3 - 5 days measure final circumference and weight of egg.

Prediction and Model: Draw and label a picture to explain what you think will happen; share with your group and be prepared to share with the class.

Data/observations:

Day 1:

Day 2:

Day 3:

Findings: What did you find out?

Wrap up / analysis / conclusion: Compare your model to your observations and findings. Did anything happen that you did not expect?
