Your neighbor, Mr. Lopez had to have half of his small intestines removed
due to disease.
Using the model you have of the digestive system and the absorption of
nutrients from the small intestines, think about what would happen if a
large part of the small intestines was removed.
How would this affect his ability to get nutrients to the cells of his body?
Draw a detailed diagram of what a normal small intestines would look like
and how absorption and transport of nutrients to the cells would look like.
Then draw a picture next to it or on another piece of paper that shows the
same things but with a small intestines that is only half as long.
