Investigation 2.2
Does This Mean We're Breaking Up? |
Carbohydrates (starches) are large molecules made up of glucose molecules. In order for your body to use the glucose in carbohydrates, it needs to break it down into small units. |
Come up with a mechanism to obtain glucose that is a smaller molecule from carbohydrates that are larger molecules. |
Now discuss your ideas with your group. Think back to the apple. |
1. What happens when you first put the apple in your mouth, could you just swallow the whole piece? |
2. How might this be similar to what happens to break down the carbohydrate into sugar or glucose? |
