Investigation 6.1

How Do I Get There From Here?

Discuss your ideas presented in your drawing on the previous page dealing with how glucose and oxygen gets to the cells. Come up with a group drawing on your whiteboard.

Share some of your group's ideas with the class. Everyone in the group should be ready to describe the drawing for the rest of the class.

Comparing, Criticizing, Revising Model

Your teacher will show you an animation which shows the blood circulating. Think about your own model.

Is the animation different?

Does it help clarify ideas or leave you with more questions?

Describe the process of circulation in the animation to a partner. Then take turns asking each other questions about your models.

What did you notice about the way the circulatory system is laid out?

Can you describe how blood moves through the system?

What happens to the blood when it reaches a distant part of the body such as your hand or foot?

Were there any surprises in the animation?

What did you see that was similar or different to what you thought previously?

Look back at the original idea you had about how glucose and oxygen moved to your cells. Now that you have discussed this with our group and watched the animation maybe you have made some additions to or changes in your model. Add to or modify the drawing in your lab book like the one below to reflect your current mental model of circulation.
