Investigation 7.0

Introduction

Look back at your drawings and notes about what you learned about digestion and energy production in the cell.

What materials are needed to conduct cellular respiration inside the mitochondria?

What are the by-products of that reaction?

Look back at your models of how glucose is taken into the body, absorbed and delivered to the cells of the body.

We know that the cells not only need glucose to produce ATP but also we saw that they need oxygen.

I wonder where that oxygen comes from. Do we get it in a similar way to the way glucose is obtained?

TRY THIS: Hold your breath. How long can you go without breathing? Why do you think this is?

Think about how we get oxygen from the air around us and to the cells of the body for energy production. Then draw a detailed picture of it in your lab book.
