Letter O Avtivity

In order to help you see cells under the microscope, we will first look at
something a little larger.
Your teacher will give each of you a card with a small letter ‘o’ that has
been cut out of the newspaper.
Observe the letter first with a magnifying glass.
Discuss with your group whether you can tell how the ‘o’ is made.
Can you see the dots of ink that make up the ‘o’?
Make a quick draw of your observation.
Now use the slides your teacher will give you that also contain the letter
‘o’.
Holding the slide by the corner, place the letter “o” under the microscope.
Focus the microscope.
What do you see? Draw what you see in the circle in your lab book. (Do
not tell your group what you see until all have had a chance to look
Letter ‘o’ under _____ power
Discuss with you group what you observed about the ‘o’
under the microscope.
Look at your drawing on the previous page. Is it the same as others in
your group? Why or why not? If necessary, take a look at the ‘o’ under
the microscope again.
Does the ‘o’ look different under the microscope than it does when you
look at it with your naked eye?
Does looking at the newspaper under the microscope help you see what it
is made out of?
Do you think you will be able to see more of what your body is made of
when you look at a slice of it under the microscope?
Think about what you have experienced.
Did you learn something you never knew before about the newspaper
print?
How do you think this could help you learn something new about the
human body?
